I'm incredibly busy at work right now (all good though!) so I'm kind of struggling to juggle all my blog responsibilities on the side as well. It's always been like this for me, though. I guess I'm really bad at sitting still! And I love having a creative outlet next to my daily job, so I don't see myself giving up the blog anytime soon.

I borrowed my sister's jacket for this outfit because I liked the unexpected colour combo - not something you see often (or something I'd generally pull out of my closet), but I'm not afraid of a bit of sartorial risk taking. And the jacket really is super cute. It comes in a bunch of different colours and is currently available at Bershka, worth checking out! Also really cute: these fringe hoop earrings. Available in 5 different colours and just $5 at Shein. Statement earrings have been making a huge comeback and I'm totally here for it!

Hope you like the look ;-)

Levi's Wedgie fit: a review (and a love affair)

Levi's Wedgie fit: a review (and a love affair)

According to my estimates, about a bajillion articles have been published about how to find the perfect pair of jeans for your body shape. Now, I am a pretty big opponent of the whole ridiculous idea that one should dress a certain way because of their body type. It's just clothes, man, and you don't owe it to anyone to look your "best", whatever that may be (your skinniest? your sexiest? your least offensive?).

Still, the right garment can absolutely make you feel like a million bucks, and there is one pair of denim trousers that completely changed my core wardrobe. I have always felt best in skirts and dresses, with trousers playing second fiddle. However, when I first slipped on Levi's Wedgie fit jeans, I knew I had found my perfect fit (pun intended), which immediately upgraded them to the status of can't-live-without wardrobe piece. Over the past year, my style has absolutely changed  because of my discovery of the Wedgie fit Levi's, and that's a big enough deal to warrant a blogpost I reckon!

Beauty: Juvia's The Magic Palette review

Beauty: Juvia's The Magic Palette review

I had been lusting over the Juvia's Place Magic Palette for months basically, ever since Stephanie Nicole gave the brand an endorsement. Finally, BeautyBay started stocking Juvia's Place, but the Magic Palette was consistently selling out in the blink of an eye. I finally managed to order one recently, as a little treat from me to me for finishing my PhD.

Wishlist: fall feelings

Since a couple of days ago, fall has officially swooped in with crisp mornings, golden foliage and casseroles all day errrday. I'm a summer girl at heart and I'd be happy if I could live in sundresses and sandals forever, but let's be honest: fall fashion is generally the most exciting, and autumn is the best time to get creative. Obviously I have my eye on a bunch of stuff (rainbow striped sweaters! puffer coats! corduroy trousers!), and I always love rounding up some cute and affordable Shein options for a little wardrobe refreshment, so here are some outfit collages I made this weekend. Does anyone remember polyvore? That shit used to be all the rage, man.

Some obvious slight Halloween/witchy/goth/Wednesday Addams vibes here. I'm seeing these ruffle sleeve striped sweaters/shirts everywhere, and I think it's such a cute look. I'm seriously contemplating ordering that star printed mesh top, imagine how cute it would look under a sleeveless dress or a pinafore! And obviously, lace up thigh highs are epic in every possible way.

This collage is a little more retro/60s/boho inspired, which is my favourite look year-round. I'm super into all the pearl detailed shoes everywhere inspired by Gucci (wish I could afford the real thing). I've been eyeing this Los Angeles 1960 sweater for over a month now, it's just a matter of time before I click it home. And I don't know if I'd be brave enough to wear this fringe jacket, but I SO admire anyone who is boss enough to rock it.

You see anything you like? :-)

Travel: California Diaries - San Francisco pt. 2

Travel: California Diaries - San Francisco pt. 2 Mission District

I'm back with my second post on our time in San Francisco earlier this year! I had so many shots to share that I decided to break up the content in three blogposts, so enjoy ;-)

This post will cover our time exploring Mission District and the Castro area. I took a billion pictures obviously, but since I didn't feel like lugging my heavy camera around all these shots are phone pics, sorry!

We started our second full day in San Francisco determined to cover most of the city's remaining tourist attractions, after visiting Bernal Heights park, the Golden Gate bridge, Chinatown and the Financial District the day before. We set out on foot after grabbing some food at the local supermarket, no time for full breakfast!

I still had this outfit sitting in my folders, and it's way too cute to not post it just because Belgium has decided to get an early start on fall. Let's just dream of a gorgeous Indian Summer that would allow us to wear sandals and crop tops a little while longer, right?

This crop top was a favourite of mine past summer. I had been looking for something exactly like this for months before I finally found this one, ultra cheap at Forever21. I mean, F21 gets flack for being a little tacky and "young" at times, but I always love how the store manages to offer just what you're looking for. A wide range of easy, cute, trendy stuff: how can you not dig that?

The shoes are the focal point here, though. I never knew how much I needed pink glitter sandals in my life until I spotted these babies at Sacha. OK I did obviously, pink + glitter is everything I love. I also really love a mid height block heel because you know I have zero tolerance for super high heels. These sandals are still available in silver and black, and the pink has been going in and out of stock for a while so I'm pretty sure they'll pop up again if you keep an eye out.

Here's to shoes that make your heart skip a beat!

GIVEAWAY: printing your favourite memories with Smartphoto

If you leave aside the stress of preparations and jumping into the unknown, travel is pretty much the best thing ever. I think we can all agree on that. I mean, I'm the kind of weirdo who even loves long layovers in a strange way. There's a special kind of charm about that moment in time and space where everyone is out of place, suspended in this liminality between leaving and arriving. But you know what's even better than travel? Immortalizing the memories you make by taking pictures. Keep reading if you want to win some materialized memories!

Honestly, research shows that people who take pictures (f.e.when travelling) remember everything better and notice more, and I completely concur. My memory is crap, but I still remember every outfit I've blogged because I photographed it. And that's why I always push my boyfriend into taking pictures together. Because I know that it feels awkward AF in the moment, but you look back on the result and the memories come flooding back.

Case in point, this pic we shot on a beach in Théoule-sur-Mer. When I see this photograph, I remember how the sun had just set behind the Esterel hills, the warm sand, the cool breeze, the pizza we ate al fresco and the gorgeous views on Cannes across the bay.

And that's everything that comes to mind when I look at this canvas print I made of the picture that is currently hanging in our kitchen area!

Absolutely the best decoration ever: a little piece of a beautiful summer evening captured and displayed. I ordered the canvas off Smartphoto, a website that offers all kinds of photo printing options like picture books, smartphone cases, pillows, posters and much more. The option I picked was a picture on a 90x60 cm canvas.

Now, I KNOW all of you have a bunch of gorgeous memories/pictures lying around just waiting to be printed and featured or gifted to someone you love. And that's why I'm giving away a €25 gift code to one lucky winner! All you have to do is leave a comment below this post with a way for me to contact you or send me an email at thestylingdutchman@hotmail.com, and explain in a line what item you'd order and what memory you'll have them print out. But keep it clean ppl!

Giveaway runs until the 17th of September, 8pm. Good luck! Giveaway closed!

biker boots: c/o Via Roma at Torfs - Wonder Woman tee, choker, faux leather skirt, fishnet socks, velvet backpack: c/o Primark - pink sunglasses: c/o Polette

I am not ready to say goodbye to summer, but Belgian weather doesn't seem to be giving us a choice right now. The days are getting shorter, it's chilly outside, and not a day goes by without some rain. I took these pics when it was still a bit warmer but I would NOT be able to get away with this look sans tights right now! Luckily, this type of outfit looks just as cute with some nylons. My feet will have to get used to closed shoes again (sandals r life), but I have always loved a good chunky boot. These ones by Via Roma have a cool texturized finish and a slightly higher heel than your average biker boot, and I had fun pairing them with fishnet socks. The whole fishnet sock has been super trendy over the past year and I finally caved and got some for myself. What can I say, I always love a cute statement sock!

This outfit is a bit sexier than I generally dress these days, with the bare legs and the pleather mini, but the 90s/The Doom Generation type vibe is super cool so I still really love how this look came together. Hope you do too!

I'm starting at my new job tomorrow, so wish me luck ;-) Cheers!

Beauty: Rouge Edition Velvet review part 2

Beauty: Rouge Edition Velvet review and swatches

Hey guys! I'm returning with another post about the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets - not a new product, and I have blogged about this before, but these are still pretty much my fav drugstore liquid lipsticks/lipcreams. I like this product so much that I have bought seven different shades in total (one of em got lost though, damnit), and since I couldn't find many swatches online I figured I might as well upload my own in case some other beauty lover is contemplating buying one of these. Enjoy!

Beauty: Dior FW1718 review

Dior Metallics collection FW1718 review

Hey babes! As much as I'd like to ignore it, fall is officially around the corner. While I can't say I'm all that excited about sweaters and bundling up (I'm a summer child at heart), I know I always start getting into autumnal looks in one particular way: the shift from a sunkissed, barely made up face to darker, more pigmented beauty looks. Fall beauty never fails to excite me, and Dior just dropped some of their new offerings for the season, so let's take a look!

Beauty: unbiased ABH Subculture palette review + 6 looks

Beauty: unbiased ABH Subculture palette review

Damn. When I started getting into makeup a couple of years ago, I would never have guessed that an eyeshadow palette would ever become as hotly debated, as loved/hated, as controversial as the ABH subculture palette. But for some reason (that reason being wrong expectations and beauty guru clickbait culture, or possibly inconsistent batches), this palette has been on every beautylover's lips for the past month or so.

Let me summarize the story.

Wishlist: boho and layering for late summer

Shop: 1//2//3//4//5//6//7//8//9

OK guys so let me talk about my latest style obsessions, both of which are totally not a new thing but stuff I have loved forever and have a newfound crush on after my holiday at the Côte d'Azur. I rounded up some of my fav pieces on Shein to demonstrate the aesthetic I'm falling for.

First: relaxed, breazy, romantic/bohemian inspired pieces that will work just as well during those last days of high summer as during early transitional weather, especially if you pair them with some layers (think leather jacket and chelsea boots). Basically every stylish French woman I saw on the streets or on the beach was wearing something along these lines, which made me realize that while I already have a sizable collection of perfect boho dresses, you can never have quite enough. I'm particularly enamored with this baby blue tasselled frock, and this white embroidered ankle length dress. Pair with a straw bag, flats, naturally textured hair and a tan (or some bronzer), and you've got that gorgeous, timelessly feminine French babe vibe. Obviously, I live for this look, as I demonstrated in this outfitpost.

Second: dungaree/jumper/jumpsuit type pieces for layering. I spotted a girl in Grasse looking so effortlessly fab wearing Birkenstocks, a white tank top and that adorable lemon printed H&M trend playsuit, and my love for dungaree type situations was instantly rekindled. To the point where I ordered one of the last pieces online via a friend in the UK, two sizes too big (but on sale!), because even my boyfriend had noticed the girl and said "her outfit is so you". I mean, it was meant to be. Whether you go for a more relaxed/cute look like this raw hem romper, or a more polished look such as this denim overall dress (ugh so sexy), just imagine the fun you'll have layering these with everything from frilly blouses, basic tees and bikinis to rainbow striped cashmere sweaters

You feeling me?

Travel: California diaries - San Francisco bernal heights

Ah, finally, I've managed to make my way through all of the pictures we took in San Francisco to put together two blogposts that share the San Fran vibe with you guys. As you know, we spent about two weeks in California at the end of May and the beginning of June, and we ended our trip with 3 days in San Francisco. This city is one of the most beautiful, memorable, colorful and welcoming places I have ever visited, and I am delighted to give my readers a small taste of everything SF has to offer! Today's post will tick off a few of the tourist hotspots but also some lesser known gems, showing you our Airbnb and its neighborhood Bernal Heights, Chinatown, the financial district, Golden Gate bridge and the Fisherman's Wharf.

Travel: California diaries - roadtrip San Luis Obispo to San Francisco

Travel: California diaries - roadtrip San Luis Obispo to San Francisco

About time I told you some more about our California travels - only two more weeks until I leave on another trip, so let's get this show on the road! Today I'll be showing you the second leg of our road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco (check out the first part here). Since we broke up the journey in San Luis Obispo, we had about 5 hours of driving to do on both days. Seemed feasible, but if you want to do some sightseeing along the way it'll still make for a jampacked schedule. Ideally, I'd break up the trip in three days rather than two - there's just so much to see and explore!
